Why Can't I Enter a Grade in Aeries?

Sometimes you have a student who has "Not Applicable" for grades, and you can't enter a score for them. Or sometimes a student you can find in "Manage Students" doesn't appear in "Scores By Class". Why is that? Aeries uses the "Start Date" and "End Date" listed in "Manage Students" to determine which assignments students are responsible for submitting. For most students, those dates will be the beginning and end of the school year (for trimesters) or the beginning and end of the term (for semesters). But students who join your class late, or leave your class early, will have different start or end dates. In the picture here, one students entered the class on November 1. Aeries assumes that student will not be submitting any assignments with due dates before November 1. It fills in those boxes with "Not Applicable" and counts the assignments as 0 points possible, so it does not hurt the student's grade...

Aeries Gradebook enhancement requests

Last Friday, several of us from Technology Services attended the quarterly Aeries advisory group meeting. These meetings are hosted by Eagle Software in order for them to get input from schools about new features and to hear requests for improvements and upgrades. At this meeting, I presented a list of nine requested enhancements for Aeries Gradebook, based on conversations I have had with teachers and administrators. Here are the items we talked about, and the responses from Eagle Software and other school district representatives in the room. Teachers should be able to share gradebooks with other teachers, either for viewing or for updating. Just as with a Google Doc, you ought to be able to share your gradebook with a counselor, co-teacher, special education teacher, or coach, either "read-only" or allowing the other teacher to update grades. This would be completely at the discretion of the teacher; gradebooks would still be private by default, and teachers could revok...
