Students can revise their writing with the help of this tool. It allows students to focus on their purpose and audience, essay structure, and use of written language (sentence economy, variety, power, and clarity). They'll learn to ask questions experienced writers ask automatically. As a result, they'll begin to express themselves with greater precision and power. It can be used in the classroom for whole-group instruction, as well as with peer editing and revising in small groups. For homework assignments, teachers can have students use Writing Reviser at home as well. One of the advantages of Writing Reviser is that it doesn’t automatically correct students’ work, instead forcing them to rewrite and edit themselves based on its suggestions.
Here's a simple way to get the Writing Reviser Add-on:
1. Open any Google Document and click on Add-ons, then Get add-ons.
2. Once it's installed, choose Open SAS Writing Reviser.
3. Accept SAS third party access.
*** SAS requires students under 18 to provide a parent email (and parents to verify) before using the add-on. Click here for a sample permission slip.
4. SAS Reviser should pop up on the right side of your screen, ready to use.
***Watch this short 5-minute video to see it in action!
