Digital Breakout EDU- Intro for Students

Are you ready to try something new?  Do you need to spice up your teaching with team building, critical thinking, and inquiry activities? Would you like to integrate Google skills into your lessons with ease?  Then Digital Breakout EDU is for you! It can be used with grades K-12. (breakoutedu.com/digital)

Here's an easy way to introduce it to your students:

WHAT IS IT?
Digital Breakout games teach critical thinking, teamwork and problem solving.
You and your team will get clues that you have to figure out in order to open a variety of locks (number, letter, directional, date, color, and time locks).
The ultimate goal is to get all lock combinations correct.
There may be several links to sites that will have clues, or pieces of clues.

HOW DO YOU PLAY?
You all need to work together to solve the clues.
Clues will be linked on the Digital Breakout Site.
Most may be in plain view, but some will be trickier than others.
You will use your skills while working in Google Docs, Slides, Forms, and Sheets.

WHO'S IN CHARGE?

No one and everyone!
Working together means that everyone will find their natural place in the game.
Some of you are leaders - but don’t overpower everyone else.
Some of you are more quiet - but don’t stay in the background.
Leaders can help guide others to a solution.
Quieter people can listen and then offer ideas.

A FEW THINGS SPECIFIC TO THE GAME...
Sometimes there are links “hidden” on a page (white text on white page), so highlight the whole page to find them.
You may have to click on a word, phrase, or photo to find a link. (Remember, when the "arrow" turns into a "hand," there's a link there.)
There usually are no clues on current live links. They are just a distraction!
You may find clues that you do not know what to do with - keep them open in a tab until you find more and/or figure out what to do with it.
Keep the noise to a manageable level.
Remember to work TOGETHER!

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU (the student)?
The satisfaction of working together and opening all the locks!
There might be prizes for some games, but do not expect to get rewarded for everything you do.
Have fun!
Play well!
