Seesaw Learning Journal Covers the 4 Cs

I have been using Seesaw Learning Journal for over three years now.  I love it for many reasons, but most importantly, it makes critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication part of a classroom's daily routine.

Critical Thinking: Students can show what they know through text, photos, recordings, videos, drawings, or links to their Google docs. Since students know that their teacher, classmates, and their own parents will be the audience, they think about what they say and write before uploading their work. Seesaw really does differentiate all by itself.

Creativity:  Using Seesaw on an iPad/phone allows for a bit more creativity because of the ability to "app smash" (layering different apps to increase a student's depth of knowledge). However, much can be done on a Chromebook as well with the ability to link Google drawings, docs, forms, sheets, maps, and slides. Students are always designing and deciding upon the best way to post their work.

Collaboration:  In Seesaw, students can view and comment on each other's work.  They learn from each other at the same time.  When working together on a project, they can reflect on their own work as well as others'. This immediate feedback from an authentic audience enables students to make choices on how to edit, improve, and keep getting better.

Communication:  Communication between students is a huge part of Seesaw! They can give feedback to each other in real time while practicing valuable digital citizenship skills.  Also, they can view and respond to their parents' and teacher's comments about their work.

No longer is work placed in a basket for one teacher to grade. Seesaw motivates and empowers K-12 students, giving them choice and voice with every post.
