BreakoutEDU day

The Force was with our SVUSD teachers yesterday, as May the Fourth brought the first BreakoutEDU workshop. Teachers learned what the game was all about, what critical thinking and problem solving skills it promotes among students, what resources were available for them, and most critically, how to change locks!

EdTech ToSAs had been learning about BreakoutEDU and promoting it all year long. The sets of boxes in the office are frequently checked out and used in classrooms from Kinder through high school. Breakout had been part of other workshops they had put on. Some teachers had purchased their own boxes or sets of boxes. This was the first time, however, that our team had put on a workshop specifically about how to use and create Breakout games.

The response from teachers was tremendously positive. They appreciated the demonstration of how to manage a Breakout game with only one box in a classroom. The binder full of handouts put together by Jen, Kathleen, and Amanda was a huge hit. Getting to take away a Breakout box for their own classrooms didn't hurt the appeal, either.
