Olivewood Elementary at CUE 18

This is a guest post by the Olivewood teachers listed below. Thanks to them for sharing their ideas with us!

This year, four members of the Olivewood Staff, Hayoung Yoo, Jasmyn Domingues, Dawn Ha, and Miriam Eldridge, had the privilege of attending CUE18. We found the scope of topics and speaker options a little overwhelming at first, but settled down to find some truly inspiring and practical systems for enhancing the learning experience for our students and simplifying our workload. We are excited to share some of our discoveries with you!
  • Project-Based Learning - Buck’s Institute for Education has a large database of valuable projects to start project-based learning.
  • “The Hot Classroom” - Use QR codes and short links to videos and digital student projects to showcase student projects throughout your classroom and on bulletin boards. You can even use HP Reveal to use augmented reality to showcase your student projects.
  • ScratchJr - Code to make math games or narrative pieces. Let’s be creative!
  • Thinglink - Students create and engage in interactive images, video, and 360 degree (VR) images. Thinglink allows students to differentiate their learning style (they can type, speak/record themselves, or select images).
  • No Fail Quiz - Formative Assessment Tool that students can’t fail!
  • Explain Everything - Students can explain their thinking visually and orally.
  • TalkingPoints - TalkingPoints connects teachers and educators with all parents and families via text messages and in multiple languages with two-way translation. It is an app you can download on your iPad or iPhone and makes communication with families easier.
